Hi everyone!
We have not officially met, even though you might have already seen me in the #LNflagshipstore or on our social media. It has almost been a month since I started working here, so I thought it was about time I introduced myself: I’m Laurence, the newest member of the pretty amazing LN Knits team!
Last summer I graduated as a digital media manager at Thomas More in Mechelen (Small town girl over here!). Unlike many others I was really looking forward to the moment when I finally could leave school and start to living my life. For me that meant, enjoying my summer and in the meantime look for a job. I consider myself quite lucky, because ever since I graduated great opportunities have crossed my path. And I know it might sound super cheesy, but my job here at LN Knits has been the best of all!
But how did I get here?
No worries I’ll try to tell you the short version 😉 It has always been a dream of mine to work in the fashion business. My teacher used to disapprove of this, because it is not an easy business to get into. But as stubborn as I am, I did not care and took the chance. And so I did my internship at Goldfish in Mechelen, a super cute boutique for kids. I wrote the blogposts, managed their social media and handled the back end of the webshop. When my internship ended they asked me if I wanted to stay during the summer, and of course I accepted! During the summer holidays I was part digital media manager and part shopmanager. I did not have much experience with the sales aspect yet, but with a little retail training it was just a matter of time before I mastered most of it. The perfect combination if you ask me.
When it was time for me to get my first real job, I decided I wanted to stay in retail. That’s why I started in Wearable Stories as a shop- and social media manager here in Antwerp. I’m so grateful that I got a chance like that. However, I did miss the digital and creative side a bit, so when the contract ended I decided to go back out there and look for a new adventure.
In December one of my best friends send me message with a screenshot of LN Knits job offer. She told me I should definitely take my chance. “This job is made for you!”: she said. So I took my chance, made a brand new CV and wrote a killer motivation letter. Ellen responded immediately, saying that sadly they made their first selection already. I was kinda disappointed at myself for waiting too long to send that goddamn email.
But then the unexpected happened. While I was waiting for my train to head home from Londen I received another e-mail, saying that they still would love to meet me for an interview. My heart literally skipped a beat, I was so excited! So a few days later I went to the LN Knits office to have a nice talk with Ellen and Lien. I was sold in no-time! So I tried my very best to convince them I would be a great fit. I even came back for a second interview to show my portfolio and creations. And well the rest is history!
The magic of new beginnings
It’s been a hectic month, that has been all about learning! Nevertheless I have loved every minute of it. I have the best colleagues that help me when I’m stuck or did something wrong (luckily this doesn’t happen that often) and the sweetest customers!
So where will you will be able to find me? First of all in the LN Knits Flagshipstore, where I’ll spend most of my workdays. I’ll be the one helping you making those difficult choices which piece you should go for or fits the best. However, we will bump into each other online too, as I will be answering your emails or chat messages! And a little less directly you will find me in the newsletters, blogposts and social media.
I’m looking forward to meet all of you one way or another!
Love,
Laurence
