Alarm clock set at 5.30 AM: off to Cusco! After a one hour flight we arrived early in the morning at our first stop in the Andes. Completely different from Lima at first sight, as expected, but it would surprise us even more! After we checked in at our, ahum, dodgy-vanilla-smelly-30$-a-night-hostel, we were ready to discover this amazing city. We headed towards the main Mercado Central, but we ended up in the ‘non-tourist’ zone. A little bit light headed because of the altitude we strolled through the local market, starred, stunned, amazed, surprised, charmed, chocked, … a mixture of crazy, yet positive vibes. We tried all the local food we could; from the delicious typical Peruvian cheese to fresh pomegranates, plantanas, bread, caramalized figs, sweet tomatoes, … We ate for an army or two!

It’s Easter, as you all know, and this is also an important festivity here in Peru. The locals were all dressed up bright and flowers were very present, making it a beautiful and colorful sight.

Peru, Alpaca, Knitwear, … = playground for LN. Time for some souvenir shopping… We bumped into an adorable old lady who was hand knitting amazing Isabel Marant look-a-like cable knit sweaters. Me and Griet we’re sold instantly: how do you like my catch off the day? I love my natural mix color, perfect to combine with every color and size of my beautiful LN|Andes collection!

As it is rainy season at this moment in Cusco, we couldn’t stay behind and we had to buy ourselves a typical-ugly-matchu-picchu raincoat! But we still managed to get some trendy colors, warm orange and petrolium blue. We try to backpack in style as much as possible, even though we both look like exploded chickens.

Again we had an amazingly fun day, with loads of laughters, smiles, excitement, … As you might have noticed, the quality of the pictures have increased dramatically, top photographer Griet Hendrickx is working her Magic! What a talent…

Tomorrow we head to Pisac for our first (small) citadel climb. First try to get some sleep in this stone-hard-bed! Hard core it is!

Love,

LN

I’m headed there in September to hike the Inca Trail and see Machu Picchu (after 10 days in the Galapagos). I can’t wait. How long did it take to get used to the altitude? I’m very worried about hiking the Inca Trail in that altitude. I’ll ony have 1 1/2 days in Cuzco before the hike starts.
