It’s amazing how time flies by… It seems like yesterday that we arrived in Ayacucho. At the moment I’m back in Belgium writing one of my last blogpost of my big Peru trip. More than 10 days too late… I became pretty sick the last days in Peru, and I am still not feeling a lot better yet… so this explains the delay…
My annual Peru trip is always very intense. Travelling 24h hours with quite a big time difference (7h), the change of climate and the altitude in Ayacucho, or even higher at the Alpaca farmers, always make this trip a challenge. Connecting with the ‘mamas’ and feeling in my body & soul that I’m working for them, gives and takes a lot of energy. Providing work for more than 200 women in Ayacucho, and around Puno & Lima, is a very strange yet warm feeling. Sometimes it gives me some pressure and stress once returned to sea level (Lima), and especially when I’ve returned to Belgium. These women really count on LN. We are their income, their food, their health and their chance to a better quality of life.
And it’s up to us, the LNKnits team, to keep on surprising you with beautiful new collections, new blends, new colours, new marketing actions and new ideas. So we can keep you hooked on LN to keep on creating as much work as possible for these women.
As an annual tradition, we bought 30 delicious & extremely sweet Peruvian cakes for all the knitters and their little children. This to celebrate the success of LN and the beauty of their work. I got the chance to thank every single lady at our atelier for the excellent work they deliver with a warm ‘gracias’ and a yummy piece of cake.
The atmosphere was light and bubbly. Music, cake, laughing women… and a very honest and moving speech by one of the knitters. They requested a lot of orders for the future, so they can keep the constant flow of work that we have been able to deliver them the past few years.
Straight after the lovely ‘goodbye’ cake, the exhaustion stroke. Funny how you can live on such an adrenaline until you know the trip is almost over and that all the pictures have been taken. (Griet and I also shot the entire LNANDES FW15/16 collection during our stay in Ayacucho. Beautiful shots… Sneaky preview soon!).
Still in need of some more days of LN-detox (meaning: not working too much), so I’ll be fully energized soon to be as creative as possible and to keep on working on this beautiful Fairfashion company of ours!
Keep in touch,
Love,
LN
