It’s me again, the LN intern. Last time I had a nice chat with Eva and you can read all about it here. But as most of you know we have another lovely shop assistant in the Leopoldstraat 22, Hilde!
Hilde and Eva have some things in common. They both have three children for example. Eva just became a grandmother for the first time last week and Hilde will become one this month! Congratulations, ladies!
“Being a mother is really important to me. It was the most beautiful gift I could have wished for in my life.” Hilde told me. When you meet Hilde, you instantly feel that she’s a warm and caring woman. She’s interested, a good listener and always ready for a chat. Very important for a shop assistant might I add! But this time it was my turn to listen.
“A lot of things have happened in my life. I have had some rough patches that have led to making new choices and starting over again and again. It wasn’t always easy, but then again that is also what makes life interesting. You always get new chances in life. If you really want to be happy, you have to make yourself happy by making the right decisions and deliberately choosing to be happy.”
For Hilde working at LN has been one of those good decisions. She wasn’t actively looking for a new job, but she had already fallen in love with the brand and the natural fabrics and colours. “I see myself as a natural person. I don’t wear too much make-up for example. And I want to stay that way, that is how I want to grow old. Natural.” Through her friend Eva, Hilde was introduced to LN and started working in the store.
So that is one thing that she thinks is important, but Hilde also tells me she thinks the LN brand is a beautiful project. Thanks to the fair trade philosophy a lot of people are getting chances that they otherwise wouldn’t have got. On top of that, Hilde is a creative person herself. Knitting, cooking, creating pottery and painting… You name it, she has done it. “I wouldn’t say that I’m particularly skilled, but I love using my hands and creating things. Another thing I like about working here, is that I see and value the creativity that is being put into everything.”
Working with clients and selling products are no new things for Hilde, who has a background in sales. “I actually studied physiotherapy, but I soon realised that sales was what I wanted to do.” The contact with people, but also the variety of tasks is what Hilde loves about working in the LNKnits Flagshipstore. “Every day is different. I feel content when I can work hard and I like the fact that I can work together with nice people and a good team. I think that’s important. I really feel at home here.”
People who know Hilde will know that she also has a love for clothing. So it was only normal that I asked her what her favourite piece was. “I know I’m repeating Eva right now, but I simply adore the Breezy Betty. It’s so light and you can wear it with anything. Beautiful!”
But of course, we were surrounded by all the new pieces of the FW17/18 collection. “If I have to pick one piece out of the new collection, then it would be the Sassy Stevie in Moss Green. That sweater, a pair of jeans and a cool pair of sneakers is everything you need in an outfit. You can spice it up with some nice earrings and voilà.”
