And there I was, standing in front of the LN Knits office. I was going to be a summer intern and yeah, was I excited! Trying not to think too much about the fact that I volunteered to work for free, I was ready to start contributing to this amazing brand.
Let me introduce myself first. My name is Sacha and I’m a tiny 22-year old, recently graduated and ready to officially become a working adult (or something like that). I love to get creative (even some occasional knitting, wink wink) and you will often see me walking around with my camera.
But enough about me. One of the nicest things about being an intern is getting to know the people behind the brand. I want to share this experience with all of you and introduce you to the people “behind the scenes”.
First up is our own Enchanting Eva, one of the two lovely shop assistants in Antwerp. Maybe you have met her already and if you have, you know that she always welcomes everyone with a smile and is super happy to help every single client. Last week I made a trip down to the #lnknitsflagshipstore to get to know her better. Want to get to know her better yourself? Then just keep reading!
Eva hasn’t always been a shop assistant, but used to work in communications: design agencies, advertising agencies, … She’s seen them all! At one point she decided to start on her own and work from home. This went great for about thirteen years, after which she had to give up her company due to medical reasons.
Through Lutgard, the mother of Ellen, she got to know LN Knits and slowly but surely started to do some work behind the scenes, such as labelling and some sewing.
“And then last August they asked me if I wanted to become a permanent member of the team. Of course I wanted that! Thanks to LN I got a new chance, so to speak, and I decided to go for it a 100%.”
When you ask Eva about her favourite part of her job, her answer comes as no surprise to the people that know her: “In the end, the thing I like the most is the contact with the clients. I didn’t expect that at first, but it’s really my thing. I’m actually quite proud to be able to represent a brand from Antwerp, being from Antwerp myself.”
And for Eva it’s about more than just selling a product. It’s selling a story, selling emotions. She loves giving people advice and seeing people leave the store happy makes her happy in turn. “LN’s fair trade philosophy works inspiring and I’m always content to realise that I’m contributing a little bit to the good cause of fair fashion.”
She is also aware of the fact that the price of the products might discourage some people to buy an LN piece. “But long after the price is forgotten, the quality and beauty of the product remain. The yarn and colour of LN pieces stay beautiful. I would even dare to say that when you buy something here, you buy something for life.”
So of course I couldn’t leave without asking her what LN knit her favourite was. “The Big Bertha and Breezy Betty scarves are my favourites. They’re pretty but also very functional, and they fit with any outfit. You can even wear the Big Bertha instead of a vest. I almost always have one of my scarves with me. Last weekend I was at the seaside and there was an actual “breezy wind”, so my Breezy Betty really was the perfect accessory.”
Want to meet Eva yourself? You can find her in the store on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and every first Sunday of the month. And keep an eye on this blog, because next up is our other charming shop assistant, Hilde!
