You know how we love to see you happy with your knits and that’s why we’re always so thrilled when we see that little tag notification. Another thing we love? Pretty pictures! But how to take the perfect picture of your pretty new knit? Here are some tips!
Choose the best background
Personally, we love the concrete floors and wooden surfaces of our store and we mostly use these, but a white background is also always a stunner. You can switch it up with coloured paper or even a patch of grass, but make sure it’s consistent with your own style and Instagram feed.
Lay it flat!
We love a good flat lay composition. And let’s be honest, a knit is easiest to photograph when you fold it neatly. Try it out against the different backgrounds you have available and find out what you like best.
Lighting
The best way to get a good and bright picture is to use natural light. Get close to a window or take your props outside, you choose! Try to avoid lamps, as they will cast harsh shadows. Unless that’s what you mean to do of course. Artsy!
Props
Every season, we order new dried flower bouquets by Flowers by Ellis to brighten up the store. And they’re multifunctional, because they’re also the perfect prop for pics. If you don’t have dried flowers at your disposal, try to use a plant, cup of coffee, a book or just some knitting accessories such as yarn or needles.
Switch it up
Alright, so you’ve got your composition ready. First things first: make sure your camera lens is clean. When that’s done, try out some different angles and choose the one that works best with the items in your frame. You can use the bird’s eye perspective, which is most used for flat lays, but make sure to zoom in on some details as well.
Editing
There are thousands of different editing apps available online and maybe you even bought some presets so you’re Instagram looks consistent. Great! Play around with them until you get the result you want. If you don’t, we highly recommend the Lightroom app to brighten up your picture and add some contrast. Sometimes less is more.
Good luck! And don’t forget to tag us in your pictures, we’d love to see the result!
