Waking up at 3 AM, suffering from a 7h jetlag, has it advantages. The day becomes twice as long! Enough time to combine work and pleasure. So I did. After a sweaty yet relaxing run near the Miraflores beachline and a refreshing shower, I enjoyed a lovely breakfast full of exotic fruits I have never tried before. Can’t even remember the names. But delicious there were! Full of energy I was ready to start the day!
I went for a stroll through Miraflores, Lima, to find a cosy bar/restaurant with free wifi so I could work and have culinary Peruvian delights at the same time. Ceviche, ceviche and again ceviche! Never heard of ceviche? Well, ceviche is the national dish of Peru and it consists of raw fish, mostly white fish, marinated in a lime/garlic/hot pepper mix. Fresh and healthy, delicious. If you want to try it yourself, you should contact my brother Jan Kegels, he and his fish catering business/caravan ‘Jean Sur Mer’ make the best ceviche in town!
While enjoying my ceviche and frozen mango juice I was trying out my new 100% baby Alpaca yarn from Mitchell. Beautiful structure I must say. The yarn is heavier than the yarn I used for the past LN| collection beanies, but smoother and a lot more luxurious. The beanie itself is not completely finished ofcourse. It still needs a polar liner inside and the white LN| pin. Big fan of the color as well, that is for sure!
I continued my stroll near the coastline and bumped into a really friendly local Peruvian guy. He asked if he could practise his english with me. Haha! How adorable! And so we did, chatting in the sun for a couple of hours, enjoying another lovely frozen fruit juice. People are so friendly here! Great vibes, makes me happy.
So everything is still going according to plan. Griet is about to arrive and we’re more than ready to explore Peru! This 3 week trip will be a mixture of work and holidays. Well, work, that’s a big word. I never have the impression that I work. LN| is my hobby, there is nothing I love doing more than knitting, trying out new materials, searching for new ideas, communicating with my lovely clients, hang out with the grannies, etc etc…
Regarding our trip through Peru, it is quite ‘packed’ I must say! We have 1 week to try to see as much of this amazing country as possible. Tomorrow will be our last day in Lima, for now, before we head to Cusco. From there on we swop the sunny 25°C, nice B&B, fresh ceviche and sandels for rainy 16°C, hostels, ‘cuy’ (fried cavia! Haha!) and mountain shoes.
But first another sunny day in Lima!

Hi Ellen,
Thanks for a nice afternoon on Friday March 30th. I learned new words from you and I´m getting my english improved.Your skills on knitting Beanies are really good! By the way, keep the softness and smoothness of the “puddle” 🙂
Marco Palacios, The really friendly local Peruvian guy.
Umm yummy Ceviche!!!
I want to go there!!:)
That view is truly breathtaking!
I also discovered ceviche! So so so good! Had it several times, but one of the coolest was in Ica. You couldn’t see anything except for the little cevicheria where we ate and the Pacific Ocean. Perfectly fresh and awesome. And in the middle of nowhere. So cool.
Lovelly! 🙂
